So Heather Watson beats Chokisova

How the mighty have fallen but a good win for Heather...

Heather Watson has taken her biggest scalp yet in senior tennis by beating former world number seven Nicole Vaidisova in the United States.

The 17-year-old from Guernsey beat Vaidisova 4-6 7-6 (12-10) 7-6 (7-4) in the first round of the Tangipahoa Tennis Classic in Louisiana.

Watson will face Australia's fifth seed Michelle Adamczak, who has a senior world ranking of 150, in round two.

The tournament is part of the second-tier ITF circuit.

Vaidisova is ranked more than 300 places above Watson at 177 and has two Grand Slam semi-final appearances and six WTA Tour titles to her name, although the 20-year-old Czech has suffered a dramatic loss of form over the last two years.

Watson followed her singles success with a doubles victory alongside fellow Briton Naomi Broady.

They defeated the American and Slovenian pairing of Chieh-Yu Hsu and Petra Rampre in another close encounter, fighting back to win 5-7 7-6 10-8 on deciding tie-break.

The British pair go on to face second seeds Jing-Jing Lu and Sheng-Nan Sun of China in round two.

I dread to think where her rankings will end up when her r3 points from Indian Wells and Miami fall off! I think she has QF from one of the clay-court events too...

She may not even make the qualifying events for IW or Miami

She definitely won't. Cut-off is about 120-130 and she has entered a 25k ITF instead

I think her name should be Radekisova. This man is really a career ruiner of women and whats worse they fall for him.Anyway,Nicole really needs to take stock of her tennis self and find a much more suitable direction to go in because the one she is going in now is almost straight to the pits of Hades such is the speed of her downward dwindle!

Vaidisova looked so promising when she burst onto the scene - I remember that fabulous run that she had a SW19.

Very good win for Heather Watson though, esp with the difference in rankings.

She had a great run at Roland Garros too!She made the semis and self-destructed.She had a lead,I cant remember who she played and lost to,I think it was Kuzzy!
